Royal Ordnance Depot - 2026

ROYAL ORDNANCE DEPOT is a photographic study of one of Britain's most significant military sites. Rather than documenting its history directly, the series explores the traces it has left behind: weathered surfaces, industrial details, shadows, windows and signs of occupation. Made over a number of visits, the photographs focus on the quiet relationship between light and structure, revealing moments where functional architecture becomes unexpectedly poetic. Together they form a portrait of a place shaped by purpose, time and memory.

Constructed between 1804 and 1816 during the Napoleonic Wars, the Royal Ordnance Depot at Weedon Bec was established as a secure inland military store for weapons, ammunition and essential supplies. For more than 150 years it played an important role in supporting the British Army and remains one of the best-preserved ordnance depots in the country. Following military closure in 1965, the site entered civilian use and today is home to a diverse community of independent businesses, workshops and studios, ensuring that its historic buildings continue to serve a practical purpose while retaining their distinctive character.
