The Z Mansion, Arizona
The Z Mansion is one of Tucson's most recognisable historic homes and one of the few surviving reminders of the city's Victorian past.
Painted for Aaron Avery in 2025 and 2026, this work became far more than a portrait of a remarkable building. Months of research, conversation and painting revealed a story that reached well beyond its walls, connecting architecture, community and the wider history of southern Arizona.
Today, the Z Mansion represents more than its architectural significance. Once a grand private residence, it has become a place of compassion, support and healing, continuing to serve the people of Tucson and reflecting the enduring importance of community.
