People of London 1 – 2026

I went to London one morning in the spring, hoping to find the sun and shadows falling across people in the streets.

Instead, it rained and it was cold.

I arrived at Euston at around 7am and walked into the city. I went up Bond Street, through Savile Row and around Piccadilly before going into Soho and down the back streets, looking for the certainly typical and poetically ordinary.

I felt a tension in London that day. There wasn't much to celebrate. Maybe it was the cut of the season. I didn't know what to expect but all I felt was function, work, waiting, carrying, going and getting.

There was a gentle grind.

I stopped looking for the photographs and just saw what was in front of me.

These are some of the photographs from that morning.
