The Broken Umbrella
Title: The Broken Umbrella (2021)
Dimensions: 120 x 150 cm
Through sound, Tom Waits, informs my imagination both lyrically and through instrumentation. In his song 9th & Hennepin, Tom speaks of a junction in Minneapolis where donuts have names that sound like prostitutes and all the rooms smell like diesel. This painting relates to the emotions and images drawn from personal experience and stories that relate to themes in this particular song.
My visual connection leans on poetic danger, a comforting melancholy and the lonesome underground of life that we observe and sometimes celebrate.
The hotels in this series represent a short stay along the journey of life and the images that occur when in this place of fantasy.
The painting comes mounted in a black floating wooden frame.
